Rise
This month we celebrated the first birthday of The Rivers Program with an epic party organised by the Rivers Peer Advisory Group.
Many current Rivers participants from Rise, MSCWA and Wungening gathered at North Perth Town Hall, where there were plenty of creative activities to participate in – from plant pot painting to creating beautiful bouquets of pipe cleaner flowers. There were even free massages on offer from the students at North Metro TAFE.
To start the event off, everyone was treated to a Laughter Yoga session with Abundant Laughter . They talked about how the way you start your day has a huge impact on how the rest of your day goes, and provided three laughter strategies to ensure you start your day right. Abundant Laughter also talked about the positive benefits of laughter including reducing your stress levels and enhancing connection. Laughter is a universal language!
Picture these specific moves our group tried: Electric shock handshake, invisible ice cubes down your shirt, a mental floss for the mind – are you laughing yet?
After lunch, MSCWA put on an incredible multicultural fashion parade, showcasing a diverse range of fashions from within the community. The parade didn’t use professional models, but instead staff and clients ranging in age from 30-80+ of all sizes and backgrounds. Indonesian, Middle Eastern, Indian and Burmese traditional attire was all on display, and everyone was in awe watching the gorgeous designs.
All in all, the day was an incredible day filled with connection, fun and laughter!
